Decorating With Train And Rail Signs

The art of decorating your home or just sprucing up a room is always fun but can be challenging for people. Some just to have the ‘flare’ for making a room personalized, and other just Hodgepodge a room making it uncomfortable to even sit in. We have been to homes of our friends that you wonder what they were trying to convey with the elements they put in their home.

Retro decorating is very hot today. What is retro? An imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past gives you a basis point to work from and we can all pick out something from our past, or a warm, abundant memories that you can place with décor.

I took a recent house tour had a theme of train and rail signs. It was quite ingenious and you have an abundant choice in choosing this type of wall décor. The owner had a love for “places” she had been. The first sign she chose was one from her home state of Pennsylvania. From there was a sign representing her college town. There was no guesswork as she had the retro signs personalized. Two walls were used in the room and she was proud to give the history of her life that was so beautifully displayed.

Nostalgia is for the most part appreciated by many people. Rain and train signs can take you back to a place and they represent so many different things. Our nation depends on these transportation systems. It is retro, yet relevant and your options to use these signs in wall décor are endless.

Don’t limit the use of these signs to homes. Memorabilia and collector’s items in these signs are a hot item. In areas of the United States where freight lines go through the town, you will often find in a government building, pictures of the rail lines that help bring the city to life.

Often located near a station is a restaurant or diner. Do you recall the movie where the “Whistle Stop Café” was featured? The center of life in small towns often is built around these systems of transportation. As the town evolved, new more modern rail was used so the history was often placed on the walls as topics of conversation.

My son had a love for trains when he was young, and we found a great amount of wall décor to place on his walls. He loved red trains, and some of the metal signs used had a background picture that had a landmark of the city where the train went through.

I watched a TV show last night where 2 men travel the country finding junk. Metal or tin wall décor of a vintage or nostalgic memory go for some decent money, but you can find dealers who are experts in this area and even have custom made signs done for a reasonable price. They are ‘hot’ now so go retro. Enjoy and be creative!
